Top 5 LG smartphones for 2011

26 Jul

Having launched a trio of impressive smartphones in the first half of 2011 – take a bow the Optimus 2X, Optimus Black and Optimus 3D – LG is loading the next half of the year with more exciting smarties including a Prada-endorsed handset and a Windows Phone 7 device.

Pocketnow.com has somehow got its grubby mitts on the Korean outfit’s roadmap for the second semester and the range looks comprehensive, taking in high end, mid-range and budget Android smartphones, a WP7 Mango-fuelled handset and NFC chipped blowers. Here’s the skinny on the best of the bunch.

LG Prada K2
LG has rekindled its love-in with fashion label Prada but if you’re expecting a vacuous style phone with limited features then think again. The K2 (pictured) is armed to hilt with power and poise. Of course, the appeal to the catwalk crowd, the handset is wafer-thin at 8.8mm but it also flaunts a cinema-sized 4.3-inch NOVA flashed widescreen, a dual core processor, eight megapixel snapper and the latest Android Gingerbread 2.3 OS. Least we forget the 16GB dollop of storage.

LG Fantasy
Sorry, not much info on this model, except we know it runs the upcoming Windows Phone 7 Mango flavoured OS. Given Microsoft’s hard line on feature protocol, you can anticipate high-end specs and looking at the pictures the screen is going to be a monster.

LG Univa
Pocketnow.com has earmarked this Android smartie as the follow-up to the fantastic Optimus One. The popular budgeteer’s feature list has been upgraded to include a larger 3.5-inch HVGA display, a faster 800MHz processor and a more powerful five megapixel camera. By all accounts it will ship in Q4 with the latest Gingerbread OS and support for DLNA.

LG Gelato NFC
This Android handset slides just under the mid-range LG Victor (Gingerbread, 3.8-inch OLED screen, 1GHz processor and five megapixel snapper) but while its feature set isn’t mind-blowing – an 800MHz processor, three megapixel lens and 3.2-inch HVGA-quality display are predicted – the built-in NFC chip is ripe for scanning, tagging and contactless payments. Again this is pencilled in for a Q4 appearance.

LG K
Not much is known about the mysterious K, except that it will be one of the first handsets to boast a true 720p HD screen. The display is rumoured to be sized at 4.5-inches and will rival the Apple iPhone 4’s retina-burning intensity.
