Russia May Tax IPad, Samsung Galaxy Imports, Kommersant Reports

Russia may introduce a 5 percent import duty on GPS-equipped tablets including Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s iPad 2 and Samsung Electronics Co.’s Galaxy Tab, Kommersant reported, citing Federal Customs Service documents.

Official distributors of the iPad 2 WiFi+3G, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 in Russia will be required to pay the charge because the devices have a navigation system that competes with Russia’s Glonass, the Moscow-based newspaper said today.

France 24 adds Windows Phone 7

French international news channel France 24 is launching a new application especially designed for Windows Phone 7. The broadcaster already claims more than two million downloads for mobile phones and tablets (iPhone, iPad, Android, smartphones).

Completely free and available in three languages (English, French and Arabic), the new France 24 application makes full use of the ergonomics of the Windows Phone 7 operating system thanks to a panoramic format that gives quick and easy access to all the information.

This new application gives access to the live broadcast, the headlines, full articles and the latest news bulletin, as well as recent programmes and a tool for geographical referencing of news articles.

“France 24 offers a particularly rich innovative user experience while retaining its brand universe that has been adapted to the specificities of the Windows Phone 7 OS. The result exceeds our expectations, with a brand new ergonomic design, thanks of a fruitful collaboration with all the teams at Microsoft,” said Boris Darlet, multimedia marketing manager at France 24, in a statement.
